Bacterial & Fungal
Skin offers resistance to infection by bacteria and fungi, but sometimes infections do occur. As with all things in dermatology, the key to overcoming the infections that do occur is customized treatment based on accurate diagnosis.
Warts are caused by the human wart virus. There are also several varieties of viral warts including those that affect hands and feet. Other types can affect delicate skin and mucosal areas, and flat warts can occur virtually anywhere. Warts are very common in children and young adults, and most eventually go away without treatment.
Most warts eventually go away without treatment, but many last a very long time.
Mechanical destruction and destruction caused by immune system stimulation are usually the two ways warts are treated. Sometimes wart removal can be challenging. It may not even be necessary. At CK Derm, we work to minimize or avoid the scarring that may occur from wart removal procedures.
Mechanical destruction of warts can be accomplished by freezing, blistering, physically removing, or burning. Immune system related removal can be attempted with oral cimetidine, and/or topical fluorouracil, imiquimod, and other compounds. The goal is always to help you make an informed decision as to which treatment is right for you in order to minimize side effects.
Treatment customization is the key to best outcomes and patient satisfaction.
